Portrait of a Place: A Photographic Trail
Carrick Hill in the Adelaide Hills was opened to the public in 1986 y Queen Elizabeth II and is one of the most important 20th century ardens in Australia. It also has a world class art collection set in an etraordinary Jacobean interior dating from 1600.
Sir Edward (creator of the John Martins Christmas Pageant) and Lady Hayward (who was born a Barr-Smith and whose considerable family fortune was derived from both wool and copper in SA) agreed toleave their magnificent hillside home to South Australians for their enjoyment and understanding.
For 2008, the Carrick Hill Trust has commissioned a photographic essay of the house interiors, garden and grounds to celebrate the 100th anniversary of Ursula Hayward, whose skill and enthusiasm had created the fine garden and collected the furniture and paintings.
One of Adelaide’s foremost photographers, Mick Bradley, has been commissioned to photograph and print the defining views, vistas and interiors to evoke the spirit of this special place. Follow the trail to discover the treasure.
